Terry MathewsTERRY MATHEWS
Biographical Summary

Terry represents the legislative and regulatory interests of major corporations; from healthcare and pharmaceutical interests to mining regulations and transportation strategies and regional planning issues. Terry has been particularly successful in helping clients navigate the annual budget process and agency regulatory activities.

Before Mathews & Maxwell, Inc. was founded in 1997, Terry worked as a senior advisor to U.S. Senator Sam Nunn. He is widely known in Georgia for his many years of service to Senator Nunn having served as State Director traveling Georgia extensively monitoring public opinion and maintaining contacts with business, community and political leaders. He organized Senator Nunn's last re-election campaign and was his key advisor on all political activities. Prior to his work for Senator Nunn, Terry served as an assistant to the Secretary of the Georgia State Senate.

Terry was selected by the University of Georgia in 2010 for the inaugural class of the "Bulldog 100: Fastest Growing Bulldog Businesses,“ an award to businesses that are owned and operated by UGA Alumni, each year. He is a member of the Georgia Chamber of Commerce Governmental Affairs Committee, and in a poll of state legislators and political leaders published annually by James Magazine, Mathews & Maxwell was selected as Georgia's most effective small governmental affairs firm two out of the past three years.

Terry, and his wife Margaret Park Mathews, live in the Brookhaven community of Atlanta.

Biographical Summary

A founding partner of Mathews & Maxwell, Inc., Scott has successfully represented major companies and associations at the state legislature and before regulatory agencies since the firm's inception in 1997.

His governmental affairs focus ranges from broad healthcare policy to specific issues such as the recent creation of the Department of Public Health. Tax issues, hospital reimbursement, assisted living regulations, economic development and regional planning are all part of his client portfolio.

Scott spent nearly a half-dozen years in Washington, where he served as Press Secretary to U.S. Senator Sam Nunn and the Senate Armed Services Committee. He has also provided media relations and communications training for private corporations as well as employees of the Division of Family and Children Services and UGA's Small Business Development Centers.

Scott's public affairs experience includes service as the Reading Clerk on the floor of the Georgia Senate and as a Public Information Officer assigned to disaster areas by the U.S. Small Business Administration.

Currently, Scott serves as Chairman of the Board for the State YMCA of Georgia. He is an active member of the Georgia Chamber of Commerce Governmental Affairs Committee and also serves on the Board of Directors for the Georgia Professional Lobbyist Association. He and his wife, Jeanne, have three children.
